URSISTAT 300 Tablets
URSISTAT 300 (Ursodeoxycholic acid) is indicated for the dissolution of radiolucent, cholesterol-rich gallstones in patients with a functioning gallbladder who are unfit for or wish to avoid surgery. It is a first-line therapy for Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) to slow disease progression and improve biochemical liver parameters. Additionally, it is used for Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) to relieve pruritus and improve fetal outcomes, chronic cholestatic liver disorders (e.g., PSC, cystic fibrosis-related), preventing gallstone formation during rapid weight loss, and adjunctively in NAFLD/NASH or for prophylaxis of hepatotoxicity.

URSISTAT 300 works through several key mechanisms: 1. Alters Bile Composition: It reduces hepatic cholesterol secretion and intestinal absorption, progressively desaturating bile to allow gradual dissolution of cholesterol gallstones. 2. Cytoprotection: As a hydrophilic bile acid, it replaces toxic hydrophobic bile acids in the bile acid pool, stabilizing membrane phospholipid bilayers and reducing cytotoxicity in liver and bile duct cells. 3. Choleretic Effect: It stimulates hepatocellular and ductular bicarbonate-rich bile secretion, increasing bile flow and clearing retained toxic bile acids. 4. Immunomodulation: It reduces MHC class I antigen expression and inhibits hepatocyte apoptosis, which is vital in treating immune-mediated conditions like PBC. 5. ICP Management: It actively lowers circulating maternal serum bile acids, which improves liver function and reduces risks associated with adverse fetal outcomes.
